MSN Messenger is now known as Windows Live Messenger. MSN Messenger was first launched in 1999 and it’s an instant messaging client. MSN Messenger started with the basics of a messaging client, and it has evolved over the years with new features which make it different from the others.
Windows Live Messenger is a text-based instant messenger. You can easily chat with your contacts using WLM or Yahoo Messenger. In addition to this, you can group chat as an option on WLM, the only limitation being a maximum of 20 people per group. While this is useful when chatting with families or small groups of friends, it is less than ideal for use in large businesses.
The drag and drop facility is very useful in Windows Live Messenger, as you can easily place your favorite chatmates at the top of your contacts list. Sharing photos is very easy – you just have to open your photos folder on your computer then drag it directly to the chat window. Your friend will be able to see the photos right away.
WLM makes sharing files very easy. You dont have to share files individually. Instead you just share the folder by uploading the folder to your contact. What happens in reality is that the folder is being shared by both computers, and if it is deleted on your end, it immediately gets deleted from your contact’s computer.
Any changes you make to your background, will be seen by your friends when they are chatting with you. What’s nice about WLM is that you can assign a personal picture to the emoticons. As an example, you can type the smiley face but your friends will see a picture of you smiling.
Integration of your Hotmail account with Windows Live Messenger is very easy. As and when you get new emails, an icon alerts you to new messages. Clicking the icon allows you to read your emails right from the Messenger window.
Just like most of the major chat clients, WLM has PC-to-PC phone calling facility enabled. Both parties must have Windows Live Messenger, and preferably a high speed Internet connection to talk live. If you have a broadband connection and a webcam, PC-to-PC video chat is also possible.
All in all, Windows Live Messenger has plenty of fun and useful features for regular users.
